How often then ? Generally, it is good to carry out maintenance operations at every season change, therefore, twice a year, one in autumn and the other one during spring.
WHICH RULES TO FOLLOW?
The ordinary maintenance of a greenhouse is carried out by following a few short rules. We can distinguish between two types of operations: maintenance on covering films and maintenance on the greenhouses structural elements. Let’s go specific :
GREENHOUSE STRUCTURE MAINTENANCE
Three rules are essential :
- Corrosion prevention. To avoid humidity fixing and to prevent biodegradation, it is always advisable to remove debris such as leaves and branches. Also, it is necessary to protect the exposed parts of the structure with bituminous products in case of use of aggressive chemical solutions.
- Regular checks on electrical equipment. It would be a good practice to keep probes clean and to do regular checks on connections, while making sure there are no leaks on electrical panels or inside the greenhouse.
- Maintenance on moving parts. In case of excessive noise it is good to grease the teeth of the racks with special spray greases, in addition to this, it is necessary to carry out frequent checks on all moving parts so that to limit and prevent malfunctions.
MAINTENANCE ON COVERING FILMS
The preservation of covering films starts from the assembly phase. In particular, it is good to verify that the film is not exposed to strong heat and that it does not come into contact with opaque black objects because they can damage the film. Then, it is necessary to regularly use specific cleaning solvents (or water) to keep the film clean.
